Kit Details
1. Dog food: It is important to use the brand of dog food your pet is used to eating. It would be very unpleasant to have a pet with disarrhia or a pet that refuses to eat strange food.

2.Don’t forget the can opener…. Even if you are feeding dry dog food, you may find a use for this handy tool.

3.Your pet will need water. Water only stays fresh for three or four4 months, so rotate your water supply in your kit. Also include water purifying tables for you and your pet in case you need to use unpurified water.

4.A pet blanket and or pet bed (http://www.ablackhorse.com/pet-beds.html) is necessary. Since you won’t know what weather conditions you may be in, it is advisable to have a way of warming your pet. Use either a blanket or a pet coat depending on your pet and his preferences. Another useful item would be a battery operated fan for warm weather.

5.However, a second collar would be a good idea in case the old one breaks. A good strong leash and a tie out cable are also useful.

6.Include in your kit a dog toy(http://www.ablackhorse.com/dog-toys.html)or cat toy for your pet. These dog toys or cat toys will be a stress relief for you and your pet!

7.Having your your Dog’s favorite dog treat or your cat’s favorite cat treat, will help relax them. These treats for Dog (http://www.ablackhorse.com/dog-treats.html)and Cat may come in handy if your animal escapes and you need a reward to coax them back.

8.Wherever, you are, it’s important to clean up after your pets. Include a supply of plastic dog poop scoopers. You can use plastic sandwich bags or buy commercial ones designed for this task.

9.Don’t forget to include a pet first aid kit.

10.If your dog is taking medications make sure you make a list of the medicines and keep that in your pet emergency kit. This will help you if you run out of your pet’s medicine or need to take him to the vet.

11.Make a list of phone numbers of pet friendly hotels and motels where you might be able to stay with pets. Include on that list, family and friends outside your immediate area who would be willing to take your pet in an emergency. Keep this list in your pet kit.

12.http://www.ablackhorse.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=523 Carry a current photo of your pet in case they get lost during your evacuations.

13.Whether you have a cat or dog, pet carriers are a safe way of traveling and keeping your pet safe during an emergency.

14.If your pet is a cat, consider making a makeshift cat litter. To make a portable cat litter container, take a small plastic food container, with a good lid and place cat litter in it. Take the lid off for kitty’s use. Remove the soiled litter and close the lid. Carry extra cat litter for replacement.

15.Very important: Make sure your pet is always up to date on his shots – especially his rabies. You will be putting him and others at risk if you do not do this. Don’t forget to have his tags secured on his collar!

16.Because an emergency can happen any time, a useful item for a smelly pet is deodorizing pet wipes. This allows you to give him a ‘bath’ without the use of tub and water.

17. If your pet is high strung, pack a medication which will calm him and comfort in.
Emergencies are stressful and his anxieties could cause more problems for both of you.
The important thing in an emergency is being prepared. It may mean the difference between life and death for your pet! Plan well!
